Abstract

El tráfico de fauna silvestre se encuentra entre los negocios ilícitos más lucrativos a nivel mundial, siendo las aves uno de los animales más afectados por esta problemática en Colombia. Las consecuencias ocasionadas por esta actividad generan un grave desequilibrio medio ambiental, así como afectaciones directas sobre el individuo traficado. En la mayoría de los casos, las aves son víctimas de alteraciones morfológicas intencionales en sus plumajes, cuya finalidad es limitar el vuelo y así poder mantenerlas en cautiverio.

Wildlife trafficking is among the most lucrative illicit businesses worldwide, with birds being one of the animals most affected by this problem in Colombia. The consequences caused by this activity generate a serious environmental imbalance, as well as direct effects on the trafficked individual. In most cases, birds are victims of intentional morphological alterations in their plumage, the purpose is to limit the bird´s flight and thus be able to keep them in captivity.
