Indicadores de bienestar animal en aves rapaces bajo cuidado profesional en Colombia, revisión bibliográfica

Abstract

El objetivo de este texto es resaltar los indicadores de bienestar animal de la mano delos 5 dominios: nutrición, entorno, salud física, conducta y dominio mental, factores que influyen en el grado de bienestar en cautiverio, con la intención de garantizar una vida digna para las aves rapaces pues estas especies son seres sintientes que poseen necesidades básicas.Las causas por las que estas especies pueden tener bajo bienestar animal son –entre otras– la restricción de conductas, el estrés social, el estrés causado por el ruido, las patologías, que las llevan a conductas autodirigidas, desórdenes alimentarios (pica) y sociales, etc. Por esto,se propone un plan de acción integral con el fin de evaluar de manera inicial las instalaciones,las especies, el estado de salud de estas y el manejo que se les da, para desarrollar el enriquecimiento ambiental, físico, nutricional, social y cognitivo, con el fin de reforzar su comportamiento natural; también se monitorea su comportamiento, haciendo una evaluación de indicadores del bienestar y estableciendo prioridades al asignar responsabilidades al personal para prevenir el dolor, promover la salud, erradicar el maltrato, desarrollar programas educativos y que todas las medidas para la prevención y la preservación de la fauna silvestre sean efectivas.

The objective of this text highlights the animal welfare indicators through the 5 domains, which are made up of factors such as nutrition, environment, physical health, behavior and mental health that influence the degree of well-being in captive environments, with the intention of guaranteeing a dignified life for birds of prey since these species are considered sentient beings who have basic needs. The causes why these species may have low animal welfare are, among others, the restriction of behavior, social stress, stress caused by noise, pathologies; which leads to self-directed behaviors, eating disorders (pica) and social disorders, etc. For this, a comprehensive action plan is proposed in order to initially evaluate the species, the facilities, their health status and the management given to them; seeking to develop with environmental enrichment, whether physical, nutritional, social or cognitive, in order to reinforce their natural behavior; monitoring their behavior in this way, making an assessment of well-being indicators and establishing priorities with the assignment of responsibilities to the staff in order to prevent pain, promote health, eradicate abuse, develop educational programs and ensure that measures for the prevention and the preservation of wildlife are effective.
