Sustainability analysis from the GRI 12 standard in the company SERVICIOS MINES VARI S.A.S.

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo evaluar los aspectos de sostenibilidad implementados por la empresa Inversiones Mineras Vari S.A.S según el estándar GRI 12. El objetivo principal es establecer una línea base para el año 2024, de modo que la empresa tenga un punto de referencia que le permita medir, controlar y establecer estrategias de mejora continua para su desempeño sostenible. Utilizando una metodología descriptiva con enfoque cualitativo, fundamentada en una revisión sistemática de información, se analizaron detalladamente las prácticas sociales, económicas y ambientales de la empresa. Se comparó esta información con los temas materiales del estándar GRI 12 para identificar las prácticas sostenibles implementadas, las áreas que no cumplen con el estándar e identificar oportunidades de mejora. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la empresa tiene avances significativos en la implementación de prácticas sostenibles, especialmente en áreas como la medición de gases emitidos al aire, reforestación de zonas afectadas, gestión de residuos, conservación del agua, contribuciones económicas, óptimas condiciones laborales, demostrando un compromiso con la implementación de prácticas sostenibles. Sin embargo, se identificaron áreas por mejorar, como la necesidad de fortalecer la manera en que la empresa se relaciona, beneficia e informa a la comunidad. Además, se sugiere establecer indicadores que permitan controlar y analizar las estrategias que implementan, evaluar si son efectivas e identificar áreas de mejora. Se recomienda que la información suministrada sea un aporte para futuras investigaciones sobre informes de sostenibilidad en empresas mineras y acciones que permitan mejorar el desempeño de la empresa Inversiones Mineras Vari S.A.S, en temas sostenibles.

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the sustainability aspects implemented by Inversiones Mineras Vari S.A.S. according to the GRI 12 standard. The main objective is to establish a baseline for the year 2024, so that the company has a reference point that allows it to measure, control and establish continuous improvement strategies for its sustainable performance. Using a descriptive methodology with a qualitative approach, based on a systematic review of information, the company's social, economic and environmental practices were analyzed in detail. This information was compared with the material issues of the GRI 12 standard to identify the sustainable practices implemented, the areas that do not comply with the standard, and to identify opportunities for improvement.The results obtained indicate that the company has made significant progress in the implementation of sustainable practices, especially in areas such as the measurement of gases emitted into the air, reforestation of affected areas, waste management, water conservation, economic contributions, optimal working conditions, demonstrating a commitment to the implementation of sustainable practices. However, areas for improvement were identified, such as the need to strengthen the way in which the company relates to, benefits, and informs the community. In addition, it is suggested that indicators be established to monitor and analyze the strategies implemented, evaluate whether they are effective and identify areas for improvement. It is recommended that the information provided be a contribution for future research on sustainability reports in mining companies and actions to improve the performance of Inversiones Mineras Vari S.A.S. in sustainable issues.
